Creating an Old-Collage Effect Poster
Under Photo Effect, Photoshop Tutorial
In this tutorial we’ll put together a poster where there is a main photograph and a lot of text using the old-collage feel. This tutorial is not so much about technique as it is about layout and composition. In this case it would have been difficult to make the poster work just by using the photo as a background, I had all of three hours to do the entire job (charity work!), and still wanted it to look nice.
The techniques below will show you how to create an image similar to the final result I have obtained below although the image below took 3 hours to paint with alot of fine detail work, you will still get the idea.At the end, the layers merged its easier to use the color dodge tool to brush the edge of the planets making them ‘glow’.
When you would like to add some new effects for your image, you can have a go on this glass blasting effect. This is mainly done by adding the texture layer and change it like broken glass. After the colour adjustment, your image is like to be isolated by a layer of glass.
Using Photoshop, you can create whatever scenes you want. Some typical scenes such as castle on the coast are commons in some countries, but if you would like to take a shot, it requires a lot of works to do. Using photo manipulation, you can overcome this.
To build up different characters, different sort of effects are required. For example, lighting and colorful effects are suitable for some kind of bright arts. To design a magician, you can apply some mysterious lightings and patterns to surround your image.
The techniques in this tutorial will teach you how to subtly use Overlay effects and Selective Color to change the mood of your image. You’ll also learn how to place shapes to aid visual abstract design, how to use brushes to aid movement through the composition, and how to add depth to the foreground.
