Difference between Photoshop and Photoshop elements?

I have photoshop v. 7.0 and photoshop elements v.6.0 and I can't seem to find a difference between the two. Can anybody explain to me what makes these two programs different?

Photshop it self is the professional photo editor version. Elements tends to be much cheaper and only does the basics.

Elements cost about $80 and CS3 costs hundreds more. Elements has 8 Bit editing versus CS3 16 Bit editing. This is a very important feature for professionals or experts at photoshop.
